Case Study:

Alne Parish Leisure Association

  • Installation Date: November 2023
  • Project Type: Inspection & Maintenance

Project Brief

Team Sport & Play Ltd were contacted by a member of the Alne Parish Leisure Association who were about to have their Annual Inspection take place and wanted us to walk through the previous report with them in preparation.

During the site visit a number of maintenance and repairs were proactively identified including; the requirement for a Bonded Rubber Mulch wear pad to the existing roundabout, a new toddler springer with grassmat safety surfacing to replace a broken item, replacement climbing grips to the toddler and junior multi play units and finally a full refurbishment of their existing cableway.

Project Outcome

The cableway refurbishment was not straightforward due to the age of the item.  The existing mechanism had failed and had started to shred the cable but parts specific to that unit could no longer be purchased.  Another, more stable ratchet mechanism was sought and retrofitted to the unit.  The new mechanism would now enable the tensioning of the cable which was previously missing from the original system.  New, green multidirectional play carpet surfacing was laid to the deck of the cableway, increasing the longevity of the decking whilst also helping to prevent any slips and trips.

In areas where there is high activity, such as roundabouts, the ground can become very worn which affects the impact absorbency of the surface.  The roundabout at Alne is a popular play item and as a result, the grassmat safety surfacing had sunken into the ground with use. By installing a Bonded Rubber Mulch wear pad to the existing roundabout the impact absorbency of the surface was increased whilst also giving the entire area a new, fresh look.

Carrying out maintenance such as replacing handles, upgrading surfacing and replacing outdated mechanisms can give a play area a whole new lease of life without the cost of having a full play area refurbishment.

Team Sport & Play have helped to make our rather sad Children’s Play Area really happy again!  Their advice was sound, professional and delivered with a keen appreciation of our budget.  The work they undertook was painstakingly thorough and to an exactingly high standard.  When they completed our project, they cleaned and restored the area to a better condition than when they found it.  In all we are delighted with their work, with their friendly approachable manner and with their ‘go the extra mile’ approach to the contract.  Would highly recommend.”
